The main focus of the activities at L’animal a l’esquena is to support creators and their artistic projects of creation and research.
L’animal has a permanent open call through which we organize the calendar to host selected projects as well as other dissemination, outreach, and training activities.
The spaces made available to residents include the studio warehouse, the farmhouse, and the surrounding natural outdoor spaces, as well as the house in the village of Celrà where accommodation is provided.
The residencies are of different types:
- Research-Creation Residency: the aim is to facilitate scenic creation and research work.
- Writing and Reflection Residency: the aim is to provide a space for silence and concentration in the farmhouse, hosting writing and reflection projects.
- Natural Environment Residency: the aim is to host research projects in the natural environment, including installation-based, performative, scientific works, and others.
At L’animal a l’esquena we establish different types of long-term relationships:
- Associated Resident Group: Mal Pelo, as the founding and associated group, uses the spaces for several months each year.
- Associated Projects: We provide more extensive and ongoing support to a group of artists with a close artistic connection to L’animal, offering them workspace and guidance over the years.
Associated projects: Xavier Bobés, Baró d’Evel Cirk Cie, Leonor Leal, Marta Izquierdo, Mónica Valenciano, LosInformalls, Meritxell Colell, and L’arreplegada.
- Annual Programme: these are the projects selected each year through applications submitted by email.
- Network Residencies: a collaborative project with other similar structures that promotes the exchange of residents. Currently, L’animal collaborates with Azala – Centro de Creación (Lasierra, Álava), EIMA (Maria de la Salut, Mallorca), A Casa Vella (Amiadoso, Ourense), and Garaion (Ozaeta, Álava).
