Pastora Galván
(Sevilla, 1980)
Pastora, the daughter of José Galván and Eugenia de los Reyes, has the dances of her home running in her blood, along with the modern dance of her brother Israel Galván. She studied Spanish Dance at the Conservatorio de Sevilla from 1990 to 1998. In 1995, at the age of 15, she travelled to the US with the San Francisco Flamenco Theatre Company, and afterwards to Stanford and to France with Israel Galván. She has danced in all the major Spanish theatres and flamenco venues, as well as many cities in Europe, Japan, the US, the Middle East and Cuba, and flamenco and dance festivals around the world. She has performed at Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla since 1998, when she took part in Mira/Los Zapatos rojos by Israel Galván.
Her collaboration with her brother continued in La Metaforfosis (2000), Galvánicas (2002) and Dos Hermanos (2004). In 2006 she premiered La Francesa, a piece in which she appeared as the protagonist, with choreography by Israel Galván, under the direction of Pedro G. Romero. She has worked with Eva Yerbabuena, Fernando Terremoto, "La Susi", Niño de Pura, María Pagés, José Luis Rodríguez, Arcángel, Joaquín Grilo, "La Tobala", Pedro Sierra, Miguel Poveda, Juan Carlos Romero. She collaborated with Carmen Linares on La Diosa Blanca, Las mujeres en el flamenco, and Los Grandes (2007), with Antonio Canales.
Her most recent work has been a solo for the Flamenc Empiric festival at the Mercat de les Flors de Barcelona and her new piece, Pastora, premiered at the Festival de Jerez 2009, in which tradition and avant garde are happily combined.
