Juan Navarro
After combining studies in Dramatic Art and Political Sciences in Madrid, in 1990 he began working as an actor and director with important contemporary European theatre companies, developing his own way of understanding performance creation. In that year he began his relationship with the company La Fura dels Baus in Barcelona, and took part in numerous projects with them for over a decade. During the 1990s he lived between Berlin, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Seville and Madrid, working with companies and directors such as Anita Saij, Dance Lab (Copenhagen), Einstürzende Neubauten (Berlin), Roger Bernat and General Eléctrica (Barcelona), Sara Molina (Seville) and Marta Galán (Barcelona). Since 2000 he has become a regular collaborator with Rodrigo García and La Carnicería Teatro on pieces such as “A veces me siento tan cansado que hago estas cosas” (“Sometimes I feel so tired I do these things”), “La historia de Ronald, el payaso de Mc. Donalds” (“The story of Ronald, the McDonalds Clown”), “Agamenón”, “Muerte y reencarnación en un cowboy” (“Death and reincarnation of a cowboy”), “Gólgota Picnic” and “4”.
From 2014 to 2017 he took part in the project Humain Trop Humain at the Teatre National de Montpelier, directed by Rodrigo García. During these three years he worked with artists such as Jan Lawers, Markus Öhrn, Luis Garay, Anna Borralho and Joao Galante, as well as directing his own pieces.
He currently lives in Barcelona. He has directed pieces such as “Tala”, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Thomas Bernhard, as well as contemporary pieces such as “Fiestas Populares” (Mercat de les flors, Barcelona, 2005), “Agrio Beso”(Sala Apolo, Barcelona,2007), “Baby” (Teatro Luis Peraza, Caracas 2010) “Nancy Spungen” (Antic Teatre, Barcelona, 2011), “Pequeño preludio (Inmortal)” (Sala Berlanga, Fundación de autor, Madrid 2013), “No-one is an island” (CNN Montpellier 2018), “El Bosque” (TNT Terrassa 2018).
As a teacher giving workshops on creation he has passed through the Escuela Superior de Diseño Elisava in Barcelona, the Universidad Popular de Bogotá (Colombia), Teatro Luis Peraza de Caracas (Venezuela), Centro de experimentación escénica La Poderosa (Barcelona), Garage 29 (Brussels), and since 2015 has been a permanent contributor to the Masters in Performance Arts at the Paul Valery University (Montpelier).
